REPLACE '64 OR '65 FALCON INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WITH A '66 MUSTANG CLUSTER

Upgrading your '64 or '65 Falcon gauge cluster from the "idiot lights" to gauges may seem very difficult, but it is actually pretty easily done in a few hours.

Parts.

The parts you will need to acquire is as follows:
  • A 1965 or 1966 Mustang 5 dial cluster. The 1965 will be wood grain and the 1966 will be black camera case.
  • A good working used gauge set, including fuel, oil, speedometer, amps, and temp gauges.
  • A new oil pressure sender to replace the existing oil pressure switch.
  • A new extension tube for the oil pressure sender.
  • Heat shrink tubing, solder and tape, both electrical and friction.

You can probably find a used cluster on ebay to get all of the instruments you need. I would recommend getting a new plastic bezel and lens since they are not very expensive parts.

You can buy a new bezel from amazon: 1966 Mustang Standard Camera Case Instrument Bezel

If you would rather use the deluxe wood grain bezel: 1965-66 Ford Mustang Woodgrain Instrument Bezel Deluxe

A new plastic lens: Instrument Bezel Lens With Gauges 1965-1966

A new oil pressure sender: Standard Motor Products PS60 Oil Pressure Sender

A new fuel gauge: Fuel Gauge GT 1965-1966

A new oil pressure gauge: Oil Pressure Gauge GT 1965-1966

A new speedometer: MACs Auto Parts 44-38210 Ford Mustang Speedometer Assembly - Round Style

NOTE:
The article is for a Mustang, but all will apply to a Falcon or Ranchero with one addition. If you have an automatic column shift it may be necessary to remove the two nuts that hold the steering column to the dash so the column can be pulled down enough for the instrument bezel to clear the PRNDL.
